The Negros Occidental Provincial Health Office (PHO) cautioned the public yesterday regarding a possible spike in flu-like illness brought about by the sudden change in weather.
PHO head, Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, said the weather this month has been unpredictable, recording hot and humid conditions during the day and rains during the afternoon and evening hours.
He said the present conditions may cause a spike in the number of illnesses such as upper respiratory tract infections, viruses, and other bacterial illnesses.
Tumimbang advised local residents to take proper precautions such as drinking adequate amounts of water; and eating vegetables and fruits, especially those rich in vitamin C to help boost resistance.
He also said flu vaccines are available at the various health offices throughout the province.
For those already suffering from flu-like illnesses, the PHO head suggested, as much as possible, to avoid going outside in order to avoid infecting other people.
He also said to get plenty of rest.
If they must go outside, Tumimbang said the sick should wear flu masks./DGB, WDJ
