Based on data from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), most domestic job opportunities are with business process outsourcing (BPO) firms, or call centers.
According to DOLE job search website PhilJobNet, there were 1,029 open call center agent positions listed this past week.
Following call center positions were cashier, service crew, and janitor.
After the recent fire at the New City Commercial Center (NCCC) in Davao City, which left 38 people dead, most of which were call center employees, Bacolod City fire marshall, Fire Chief Inspector Publio Ploteña, ordered the local Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to conduct safety inspections of BPO firms earlier this month.
Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia discussed the importance of the inspections, emphasizing the estimated 28,000-strong BPO workforce that generates billions in income for the city./PLL, WDJ
