The Bacolod City government has formally expressed its support for Pride Month after the city council approved a resolution recognizing the annual observance and reinforcing its commitment to equality, inclusivity and non-discrimination.

The measure highlights the city’s stance on protecting the dignity and rights of all residents, including members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and promoting a society where diversity is respected.

The resolution acknowledges the contributions of LGBTQIA+ individuals in the city’s social, cultural, educational, economic, and civic development.

Councilor Cesar Distrito said the measure is anchored on constitutional principles of equal protection and human rights, stressing that discrimination has no place in a progressive local community.

Councilor Celia Flor, meanwhile, emphasized that recognizing Pride Month reflects a broader commitment to fairness and respect in public life, noting that inclusive policies benefit the entire community.

Councilor Em Ang also underscored the importance of solidarity among sectors, encouraging active participation from institutions and civil society in initiatives that promote awareness, respect and human rights protection.

Under the resolution, city offices, schools, and community organizations are encouraged to support lawful activities aligned with Pride Month observance, particularly those that promote understanding, prevent discrimination, and foster safe spaces for all individuals.

The said initiative reflects Bacolod’s continuing effort to strengthen policies that uphold human dignity and ensure equal opportunity regardless of gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation./CCJ, WDJ
