Following evacuations earlier this week by the Capiz Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) after “critical ground movement” was detected Mondayafternoon, which indicates a potential for landslides, an ‘Alert Level 3’ remains over Barangay Agbatuan in Dumarao.
Capiz PDRRMO head Esperidion Pelaez reported 48 families have already been evacuated from the area.
Following Tropical Depression Agaton, which struck the area earlier this month, 159 of the province’s 473 barangays reported flooding. As of Thursday, according to Pelaez, 46 are still experiencing flooding.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Region VI (MGB-6) recently identified several locales across Panay considered to be “critical areas” for landslide and flooding, indicating a vulnerability to the said calamities.
Dumarao was included among Capiz local government units on the landslides list; while Roxas City, Dumalag, and Pontevedra were named on both lists./PLL, WDJ
