The most recent data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) revealed a total 31 dengue-related deaths have been recorded in Negros Occidental this year, an addition of six cases since their previous report, which was released last week.
According to PHO head, Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, the latest cases originated in EB Magalona, San Enrique, Bago City, Sagay City, and Escalante City, which reported two fatalities.
Dengue-related deaths are on the increase, up from 26 recorded during the same period last year.
The most fatalities have occurred in San Carlos City and Hinigaran, with each recording four incidents.
In an effort to reduce the number of cases, Tumimbang said his office will review protocols at various hospitals throughout the province on how they treat their dengue patients.
He said, once patients arrive at the hospital, the chances of survival increase. However, he noted, some fatalities were recorded after already receiving medical treatment.
Meanwhile, the Bacolod City Health Office (CHO) noted last week, there was a drop of 19.8 percent in local dengue cases, with the latest fatality being a four-year-old resident./DGB, WDJ
