Spokesperson insists Mabilog is not fleeing
After Iloilo City Administrator, Atty. Hernando Galvez, and spokesperson for Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, Atty. Mark Piad, insisted the mayor was not fleeing the country and was scheduled to return to the city after speaking at a forum in Japan, the mayor, who has been under scrutiny for suspected links to illegal drugs, is reportedly in Malaysia.
Piad said this trip is “official business,” saying the mayor is in Malaysia for the Environmental Urban Accord Summit and is scheduled to be there from September 7 to 9.
The spokesperson added he has foreign travel authority, signed by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary for Local Government Austere Panadero.
Mabilog was previously in Japan towards the end of last month, leaving the country a day before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) conducted an inspection of his waterfront home, which overlooks the Iloilo River.
The Iloilo City mayor has previously denied providing protection for slain drug lord Melvin ‘Boyet’ Odicta, Sr. and other crime syndicate groups./WDJ
