COC filing for barangay, SK polls begins later this month

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday announced filing a certificate of candidacy (COC) for the upcoming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections will begin on September 23, despite the possibility of poll postponement.

According to Comelec Education and Information Department head James Arthur Jimenez, COCs must be filed with the Office of the Election Officer within the candidate’s respective local government unit by September 30.

He also pointed out, the election period will run from September 23 to October 30, while the campaign period will run from October 13 to October 21.

Election day is currently scheduled for October 23.

The Comelec is also planning to implement a nationwide gun ban, Jimenez added.

Meanwhile, it was previously reported that Surigao del Norte second district Rep. Robert Barbers said he was optimistic his proposed bill, which calls for the postponement of the said polls, will pass before the House of Representatives./DGB, WDJ
