Representatives of Chinese state-owned consultancy firm CCCC Highway Consultants Co., Ltd. are currently in the Western Visayas region to begin their pre-feasibility study on the first phase of the proposed Panay-Guimaras Bridge.

According to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) assistant regional director, Engr. Al Fruto, “This will formalize the project partnership between China and the Philippines.”

He added, Chinese representatives are also inspecting sites in Guimaras and Negros.

It was also reported last month that another Chinese firm, BYD Auto Industry Co. Ltd., an automobile manufacturer based in Xi’an, China, began their feasibility study for a proposed monorail system in Iloilo City.

The proposed monorail is expected to stretch from Iloilo City, through the town of Sta. Barbara, to Cabatuan, where Iloilo International Airport is located./WDJ
