According to Provincial Health Office (PHO) head, Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, there is a sufficient supply of blood in Negros Occidental.
In a radio interview yesterday morning, he noted there have not been too many dengue patients as of late, despite the onset of the rainy season. The PHO head said the number of fatalities due to the virus has dropped due to the large supply of blood, which is crucial when treating patients infected with dengue.
Tumimbang added, the ample supply also allows for more elective surgeries to be performed.
He also urged the public to take part in blood-letting activities, saying those events help maintain the supply of blood in the province.
Last Friday, Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. awarded 400 individuals during the Provincial Sandugo Awards 2017, which took place at the SMX Convention Center at SM City Bacolod.
Marañon said if an individual donates blood, not only does it help someone, it could also be used to treat fellow family members who might need it one day./WDJ
