The lead convenor of the Kilusang Pagbabago (KP) in Visayas praised the recent anti-drug operation in Ozamiz City, which resulted in the death of Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog, Sr., saying it “smashed the powerful core of the Kuratong Baleleng syndicate.”
Kuratong Baleleng is reportedly an organized crime ring founded by Ongkoy Parojinog, the mayor’s father.
In an email, KP-Visayas leader Doris Isubal-Mongaya said the actions taken by law enforcement are progressing in the elimination of major crime gangs, along with their political infrastructure.
“Kuratong Baleleng and its political dominance in Ozamiz City characterize what we call narco-politics,” she stated.
Senator Panfilo Lacson, who previously served as Philippine National Police (PNP) director general, said Kuratong Baleleng was known to engage in kidnap for ransom, robbery, extortion, among other illegal activities.
Isubal-Mongaya added, the Ozamiz City slay will provide “momentum in order to vanquish other syndicates in the country and take down the big drug lords and their protectors.”
Last Sunday, Parojinog and 14 others were killed after they allegedly opened fire against members of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG), who attempted to serve a search warrant at his residence./WDJ
