Following studies on a gradually growing land elevation that first appeared in Barangay Apdo, Hamtic, Antique last April, the occurrence turned out not to be volcanic in nature.
Based on a July 4 study, geologist Robjunlieana Lim said water deposits pushed the soft sediments upwards, causing the land elevation. Subsequent tests revealed the components did not meet the parameters that would consider the occurrence volcanic.
In May, the elevation measured two meters and, in the following month, an assessment by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) found it had grown to six meters.
Located adjacent to a local hot spring, according to the PDRRMO, the elevation is comprised of silt and clay./WDJ
