Following rumors suggesting Bacolod City athletes currently competing in the 2017 Palarong Pambansa in Antique have yet to receive allowances from the Department of Education-Negros Island Region (DepEd-NIR) and are unable to buy food, DepEd-NIR assured funds were on the way and said there were delays because of the size of the contingent.
According to DepEd-NIR Assistant Athletic Manager Eden Ariola, with Bacolod City sending the largest number of athletes to compete for NIR, there were delays in the preparation of documents.
She added P3.540 million from the city government of Bacolod has already been released.
Ariola explained there are around 377 athletes and 20 officials representing Bacolod City, with each athlete expected to receive P8,000 in allowances./WDJ
