A pregnant mother and her son were declared dead after they drowned along the shoreline of Barangay 35, Bacolod City, Saturday morning.
Authorities identified the fatalities as 21-year-old Roselyn dela Cruz and John Carl dela Cruz, 2.
Witnesses said the two, along with Dela Cruz’s husband, went in the area to swim and collect seashells.
As the victims were wading through the water, they were swept into the sea by strong waves.
The husband managed to get back to the shoreline, but lost sight of his family.
Members of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) later recovered the son and rushed him to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
The mother’s remains meanwhile, were recovered by rescue personnel around 5:15 p.m. the same day.
Authorities are now investigating the incident./WDJ
