Last week, Isabela Mayor Enrique Montilla III died after suffering a heart attack. He was 57 years old.
In a press conference yesterday, Montilla’s wife, Irene, said they were not expecting the death, noting her husband has been suffering from a condition, to which he has undergone dialysis since July 2015.
“The cardiac arrest came quite suddenly and unexpectedly,” she added.
The mayor’s wife recalled he said he was not feeling well last Thursday, prompting them to rush him to Riverside Medical Center from their home in Bacolod City.
“They tried to resuscitate him but were not able to do so,” she explained.
The mayor’s remains will be transferred today to Isabela, where a public viewing will take place until Tuesday. Meanwhile, Town Councilor Patrick Miguel Montilla, the late mayor’s brother, conducted a special session over the weekend in order to declare a “State of Mourning” from April 17 and 18.
The mayor will be buried on April 18 at their family’s mausoleum in Barangay Ubay, Pulupandan.
Joselito Malabor is the town’s current vice mayor./WDJ
