The remains of former Bacolod City Mayor Jose Montalvo, Jr. will be transferred to the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) today, where a mass and necrological rites will be conducted in the afternoon.
Montalvo passed away over the weekend at the age of 91.
On Friday, Montalvo will be transported to the St. Jude Thaddeus Parish in Barangay Alijis, with a final interment at the Bacolod Memorial Park at 4:00 p.m.
Montalvo is credited with organizing the first MassKara Festival, which was established in response to the sinking of the M/V Don Juan where his wife, two kids, and in-laws perished, in an effort to “bring the smiles back to the local populace.”
The late mayor also oversaw the visit of Pope John Paul II in Bacolod City in 1981.
