The Bureau of Fire Protection-Negros Island Region (BFP-NIR) said the number of fire incidents in the region last month was much less than the number reported in the same month last year.
In data released by BFP-NIR Director, Fire Senior Superintendent Fred Trajeras, they recorded 62 fire incidents last month, compared to 97 in March of 2016.
The amount of damage also reduced, P3.5 million compared to P7.1 million last year.
The reason why fire incidents have reduced, according to Trajeras, was due to their diligence in raising public awareness on how to avoid and fight fires.
The BFP-NIR also wrapped up their month-long celebration of the Fire Prevention Month, last Friday, but Trajeras said the public should make every day, fire prevention day./WDJ
