Police Regional Office-18 (PRO-18) Director, Police Chief Superintendent Renato Gumban, said security preparations for the upcoming Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) meetings in Bacolod City, from March 21 to 24, are complete.
During last Thursday’s “table top exercise” between government agencies, Gumban said there were no major changes to their security plans.
He explained the exercise was meant to test involved agencies of their tasks whenever a situation arises.
Gumban noted a minor change in the itinerary, stating they will no longer visit The Ruins in Talisay City, but instead it will serve as a dinner venue for the guests and delegation.
He added security at the venue site in Talisay City will be handled by an event commander, who will oversee the coordination of all sub-task groups.
The police regional director said they will deploy more than 3,000 personnel during the event, which will consist of members of the police, armed forces, and other agencies; along with several drones to monitor overhead security over the venue sites, supported by four helicopters.
Previously, the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) said they are not monitoring any threats to the event and have also decided not to declare a gun ban in the city, saying they are confident that licensed gun owners will be responsible enough./WDJ
