After elections in Districts 4 and 5 of the Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Ceneco) failed to present qualified candidates earlier this month, Ceneco General Manager Sulpicio Lagarde announced special elections will take place on March 26.
In the District 4 election, which covers Bacolod City-East that includes Barangays Villamonte, Montevista, Alangilan, Granada, Estefania, Vista Alegre, Mansilingan, and Abkasa, former Board of Director Roy Cordova and General Alliance of Workers Association (GAWA) Secretary-General Wennie Sancho both announced their intentions to run.
However, Cordova was disqualified following a case surrounding a delayed refund to the National Electrification Administration, while Sancho failed to submit a certification from the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board-Region VI (RTWPB-6), where he is affiliated.
For District 5, which is comprised of Bacolod City-West, including Barangays 8-16, 21, 34-39, and Singcang-Airport, no qualified candidates stepped forward.
Prior elections in District 1, which services Barangays 1 to 7, Bata, Banago, and Mandalagan; District 6 in Bago City; District 8 in Talisay City; and District 9 in Silay City all ran unopposed candidates./WDJ
