Two dead, three injured in Cauayan road collision

Two people are confirmed dead, while three others were seriously injured, following a road collision between a passenger jeepney and a tricycle along the National Highway, part of Barangay Man-uling, Cauayan, late Wednesday evening.
Police identified the fatalities as 40-year-old Emmanuel Sabo and Christine Jade Garcenilla, 9, while the injured were identified as Sherwin Garcenilla, 37; Patricia Garcenilla, 12; and John Marvin Garcenilla, 7.
Cauayan municipal police chief, Police Chief Inspector Ruben Pajarito, said, based on their initial investigation, the group was riding a tricycle heading to Barangay Goce, in the said town, when they were hit by a passenger jeepney driven by 43-year-old Efren Cuenca.
The jeepney reportedly dragged the tricycle for 60 meters before coming to a stop.
All victims were rushed to the town’s district hospital, where Sabo and Christine were declared dead on arrival.
The surviving victims, meanwhile, were later transferred to a hospital in Bacolod City for further treatment.
Cuenca was, meanwhile, arrested by police following the incident.
Pajarito added the suspect was drunk when the collision happened.
The suspect is facing charges of vehicular manslaughter and is detained at the Cauayan Municipal Police Station./WDJ
