A 33-year-old man was killed after he was allegedly shot by his father following a heated confrontation at Barangay Libas in Negros Occidental’s Isabela town on Thursday, July 2.
The victim was identified only by the alias “Junior,” while the suspect was his 74-year-old father, identified as alias “Asiong.”
Isabela police chief Major Joseph Partidas said the victim was drinking alcohol with his friends in Purok Sambag at around 4:00 p.m.
Police said a commotion broke out between “Junior” and his companions, prompting his father to intervene in an attempt to pacify the situation.
However, the argument between the father and son led to a heated exchange.
The father returned home, while the victim’s companions also left the area.
Investigators said “Junior” later went to his father’s residence, allegedly carrying a stone and challenging him to another confrontation.
The father then reportedly came out of the house armed with an improvised shotgun and allegedly fired at his son.
The victim sustained a gunshot wound in the shoulder and exited through the neck, resulting in his death.
Police also revealed that the father and son had a long-standing family dispute.
Authorities said the suspect had driven the victim away from their home about three years ago due to previous conflicts./CCJ, WDJ
