The Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NORPPO) is strengthening collaboration with other law enforcement agencies through the “SAFE NIR” flagship initiative of the Police Regional Office in the Negros Island Region.

NORPPO spokesperson Police Captain Stephen Jaynard Polinar said during an online press conference that the program, anchored on the Dial 911 emergency hotline, “will ensure swift police response and community visibility.”

“SAFE” stands for Seen, Appreciated, Felt, and Extraordinary police service.

Polinar said the “SAFE” initiative “not only covers anti-criminality or efficient public service but effective emergency response across the province at any given time.”

The launching of the SAFE NIR, Dial 911 program is set for June 25 in Dumaguete City.

The initiative complements the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) Safer Cities program through a multi-agency approach that maximizes the capabilities of participating agencies while promoting innovation in public safety programs and projects.

Polinar said the SAFE NIR initiative will focus on heightened police visibility through increased foot patrols and the active presence of law enforcement personnel in commercial areas, transport hubs, and other high-foot-traffic locations to deter crime and reassure the public of their safety.

The program also emphasizes professionalism and adherence to ethical standards, with strict compliance with operational procedures and a zero-tolerance policy against abuses among the ranks, he said.

Monitoring mechanisms will be strengthened to promote transparency and accountability among personnel, he added.

The NORPPO urged the public to dial 911 for faster emergency response and assistance.

Polinar said they are partnering with the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices from the local government units, and other authorities for the implementation of the initiative. (PNA)
