A 58-year-old sugarcane plantation overseer was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen while supervising workers at Barangay Bi-ao in Negros Occidental’s Binalbagan town on Monday morning, June 8.

The victim, identified only by alias “Makoy,” was overseeing laborers who were uprooting grass in the plantation in Sitio Mag-anay 1, when two armed men approached him at around 7:30 a.m. and opened fire, hitting him multiple times in different parts of the body.

He was rushed to the Binalbagan infirmary for treatment, but he was declared dead on arrival.

Binalbagan police said the two suspects immediately fled after the attack and were last seen heading toward Barangay Payao in the town.

Authorities recovered three fired bullets and four spent .45-caliber cartridge cases from the crime scene.

The Scene of the Crime operatives were requested to conduct a forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police have yet to determine the motive behind the killing and the identities of the suspects as investigation and pursuit operations continue./CCJ, WDJ
