Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya appealed to students to stop spreading fake news or anything that is not true to avoid creating panic and alarm.

His call comes after a student posted a fake post on Facebook on Sunday, June 7, claiming that classes in the city were suspended yesterday, June 8.

Gasataya said he immediately ordered an investigation to trace the Facebook account, which was identified on Sunday afternoon, June 7.

They summoned the student, who is a minor, along with his mother to the principal’s office yesterday.

The mayor said the mother claimed that her child’s Facebook account had been hacked.

However, Gasataya said the student will be subjected to disciplinary action and counseling to ensure that such an incident will not happen again.

The mayor warned students who deliberately spread fake news that authorities are determined to track them down and hold them accountable for their wrongful actions./MAP, WDJ
