The Philippines stayed on course for a spot in the FIBA U18 Women’s Asia Cup after overpowering Singapore, 83-53, to notch its second straight victory in the SEABA qualifiers at the STI – West Negros University Gym in Bacolod City on Wednesday, June 3.

Gilas Pilipinas Women U18 improved to 2-0 in the regional tournament behind a strong all-around effort led by Tiffany Reyes, who finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, four steals, one assist, and one block.

The Filipinas had to overcome a sluggish opening quarter as Singapore seized an early 8-3 advantage and kept pace throughout the period.

The hosts managed to regain control but held only a slim 18-17 lead after the first 10 minutes.

The game shifted decisively in the second quarter when Gilas found its offensive rhythm. The Philippines dominated the period, 24-10, to build a comfortable 42-27 cushion at halftime.

Reyes, Sophia Dignadice and Riri Perez then spearheaded a decisive third-quarter surge.

An 11-0 run to open the second half stretched the lead to 53-27 and effectively put the contest out of reach.

The Filipinas continued to pull away in the final period, leading by as many as 32 points before securing the 30-point victory. Dignadice provided strong support with 16 points, five rebounds, seven assists, and four steals as Gilas maintained control at both ends of the floor.

Head coach Sandy Arespacochaga also received contributions from the entire roster, with every player getting on the scoresheet.

Singapore was led by Hui Jun Ayeni, who scored 10 points./ASC, WDJ
