Negros’ CBR Buglas successfully defended its crown in the 2nd Handurayo Cup after another strong showing highlighted by standout performances from Shine Sales and Emjay Samson, who both earned Most Valuable Player honors.
The team opened its campaign with a commanding 5-0 victory over the Golden Football Club in the elimination round.
Erika Jamio led the attack with a brace, including the opening goal in the fifth minute, as CBR Buglas finished with a 3-0-1 record heading into the finals.
The championship match ended in a scoreless draw before CBR Buglas prevailed, 3-2, in a penalty shootout.
Renee Lomugdang converted a crucial far-post kick during the shootout to seal the victory and complete the squad’s back-to-back title run.
In the Girls Born 2008 division, Pamplona Pontevedra FC A conceded an own goal off a header in the finals following sustained offensive pressure.
CBR Buglas is mentored by technical director Jiff along with coaches Earl, Ron and Bea.
The roster is composed of Samson, Jhayne Dalogdog, Nicole Segovia, Renee Lomugdang, Shanel Molequin, Sales, Erika Jamio, Yannah Amar, Nathalie Andres, Ysabel Yasay, Cyrlizene Ibañez, Hannah Bagomboy, and Quirah Relos.
Other participating teams included ADA Bacolod, Golden FC, Pamplona Pontevedra A, Pamplona Pontevedra B, and Silay Lokal FC.
Following its successful Handurayo Cup campaign, CBR Buglas is set to compete in the 1st Mango Ranch Valencia, Negros Oriental Soccer Championship from May 30 to 31./ASC, WDJ
