The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings outlasted Bol Bol and the TNT Tropang 5G in a thriller, 93-86, to secure the second seed heading into the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup playoffs at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.

The Gin Kings will face the Phoenix Fuel Masters in the quarterfinals with a twice-to-beat advantage after securing their ninth win in 12 games to close out the elimination round.

Helping make that possible was RJ Abarrientos, who scored Ginebra’s final five points against TNT to finish with 17 points, four rebounds and three assists, allowing the Gin Kings to survive a blown 15-point lead.

Justin Brownlee topscored for Ginebra with 18 points, 15 rebounds and four assists, while Scottie Thompson turned in an all-around performance of nine points, seven assists and six rebounds without committing a turnover.

However, none proved bigger than Abarrientos’ crucial high-arcing jumper over Bol with 3:26 left, which gave Ginebra an 88-83 advantage.

The two squads exchanged empty possessions from there, but Abarrientos later drilled a booming three-pointer with 48 seconds remaining to effectively seal the victory.

Bol paced the Tropang 5G with a massive 33-point, 10-rebound outing, but it was not enough as TNT slipped to the eighth seed with six defeats in 12 matches.

Defending champion TNT will face the top-seeded NLEX Road Warriors in the quarterfinals, with the Road Warriors holding the twice-to-beat advantage. (ABS-CBN News)
