The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigresses completed a dominant run in the UAAP Season 88 women’s 3×3 basketball tournament, overwhelming the Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws, 21-11, in the finals at Ayala Malls Manila Bay on Sunday, May 3.
The Growling Tigresses captured their third title in four years and swept all nine of their games, winning by an average margin of nearly 11 points per outing.
Coi Danganan led the charge in the championship game with nine points, while Negrense Kent Pastrana and Brigette Santos contributed five points each.
Pastrana was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, capping her collegiate career with four UAAP championships and two 3×3 MVP awards.
“It’s a mix of emotions. I’m very happy, but also sad because I’m leaving the team and UST,” Pastrana said.
“Thank you to my teammates for their heart in the game, and to our coaches and supporters,” she added.
Victoria Pasilang scored six points for FEU, while leading scorer Amyah Espanol was limited to just two points without a field goal.
UST dominated the Adamson University Lady Falcons, 21-10, in the semifinals, while FEU advanced after eliminating defending champion Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, 21-16.
Ateneo salvaged the bronze medal behind Kacey dela Rosa, who scored 12 points in a 16-14 win over Adamson.
University of the East Lady Warriors’ Sybil Oñate was named Rookie of the Year in the women’s division./ASC, WDJ
