The Central Negros Power Reliability Incorporated (CENPRI) has expressed strong support for the national government’s energy conservation campaign, aligning its operations with austerity measures promoted by the administration of Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.
CENPRI, which operates a diesel power plant at Barangay Calumangan in Negros Occidental’s Bago City, plays a key role in providing supplementary electricity during peak demand and emergency situations in the Visayas grid.
The company emphasized that ensuring reliable power supply remains critical amid rising energy pressures.
In a statement, CENPRI described the government’s austerity program as a “positive and necessary step,” particularly as global economic challenges intensify following the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran.
The administration’s measures focus on reducing energy consumption, limiting non-essential expenditures, and prioritizing essential public services.
CENPRI noted that policies such as mandatory energy-saving practices, simplified public holiday celebrations, and the suspension of excise taxes on liquefied petroleum gas and kerosene are helping cushion the impact of rising costs on Filipino households.
Company spokesperson Emmanuel Canto said the firm is actively implementing its own internal conservation efforts in support of the national directive.
Among these measures are the reduction of unnecessary travel, the promotion of ride-sharing and vanpooling among employees, stricter fuel consumption monitoring for generators, and initiatives aimed at minimizing energy waste across operations.
CENPRI’s human resource department has also encouraged employees to adopt energy-saving habits not only in the workplace but in their homes.
These include unplugging unused appliances and devices to reduce electricity consumption.
Meanwhile, management has intensified safety protocols through regular inspections of electrical systems, including power cords and outlets, to prevent hazards such as electrical fires./CJ, WDJ
