The Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) will take over the development of 17 remaining buildings under the Yuhum Housing Project at Purok Arao in Bacolod City’s Barangay Vista Alegre, following the failure of the original contractor to fulfill its commitment.

Bacolod City Lone District Representative Alfredo Abelardo Benitez confirmed that Scheirman Construction Consolidated Inc., the initial proponent under a public-private partnership with the local government, was unable to complete the agreed-upon 25 buildings.

Due to this, Benitez said efforts were made to ensure the continuity of the housing program, leading to the entry of SHFC to take over financing and development.

Despite the change in developer, Benitez assured that there would be no increase in the unit prices and monthly amortization for beneficiaries.

The project’s original design and planned amenities will also be retained.

The matter regarding the accountability and possible actions against Scheirman Construction has been referred to the Bacolod City Council for deliberation.

As of now, only four buildings have been completed under the Yuhum Housing Project.

Two of these have already been turned over to beneficiaries, while the remaining two are still under construction./CJ, WDJ
