Negrense Bernadeth Pons delivered a standout performance as the Creamline Cool Smashers outlasted the PLDT High Speed Hitters, 22-25, 27-25, 19-25, 28-26, 15-10, to open its semifinal campaign in the PVL All-Filipino Conference on a high note at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City Saturday, April 11.

Pons erupted for 28 points to earn Best Player of the Game honors, leading the Cool Smashers’ fightback from the brink and steering them to a crucial victory that forged a tie with the Cignal Super Spikers at the top of the standings.

Creamline found itself on the verge of defeat in the fourth set but showed composure under pressure, saving multiple match points before forcing a deciding frame.

The Cool Smashers then took control in the fifth set, riding on timely hits and a more composed attack to close out the match after two hours and 20 minutes.

Pons proved steady throughout, delivering key conversions in crucial stretches, including a powerful hit late in the fifth set that set up match point.

She drew strong support from Jema Galanza, who bounced back with 17 points, many of which came in the closing moments of the match.

Galanza helped Creamline build separation in the deciding set, while Pangs Panaga and Tots Carlos contributed key points that kept PLDT at bay.

Alyssa Valdez added 10 points, while Panaga, Bea de Leon and Carlos chipped in eight each as Creamline showcased a balanced offensive effort.

PLDT threatened behind Alleiah Malaluan’s 23 points and Savi Davison’s 22, with Kim Dy and Majoy Baron also providing support.

However, the High Speed Hitters faltered in the fifth set after failing to capitalize on their chances to close out the match earlier.

Meanwhile, the Cignal Super Spikers opened its single-round robin semifinal campaign with a 23-25, 25-14, 25-11, 25-12 win over the Farm Fresh Foxies.

After surrendering the opening set, the Super Spikers quickly regained control and dominated the next three frames to begin the round-robin semifinals with a 1-0 record.

Erika Santos led the Super Spikers with 21 points built on 20 attacks and one block, Vanessa Gandler added 18 markers, coming from 13 attacks, three blocks and two service aces, while Ernestine Tiamzon contributed 11 markers for the Super Spikers.
