The Meralco Bolts weathered a massive TNT Tropang 5G fightback in the final quarter to hold on for a 110-106 lead, Tuesday evening, April 7, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Marvin Jones had 29 points and 12 rebounds, while CJ Cansino added 19 markers for the Bolts, who led by as many as 20 points.

But TNT worked its way back, thanks to a 35-point fourth quarter, and got within two points, 107-105, off two free throws by Ray Nambatac with a minute to go.

The 5G couldn’t get closer, however.

Roger Pogoy bricked a triple on their next trip down, and though Bol Bol grabbed the offensive rebound, he committed a turnover in trying to control the ball.

That led to two free throws for Chris Newsome for a 109-105 lead, before a split at the line by Bol trimmed the Meralco lead to three points, 109-106, with 13 seconds to go.

Jones made just one of two charities to leave the door open for TNT, but Bol’s off-balanced attempt at a four-pointer was off the mark and Meralco survived.

The win was the Bolts’ fourth in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup, while TNT dropped to 2-2.

Bol had 28 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks for TNT, while Jordan Heading added 21 markers. (ABS-CBN News)
