A temporary suspension of permits to carry firearms outside residences will be enforced in Bacolod City from April 13 to 19 as authorities tighten security for the 30th Panaad sa Negros Festival.

The directive, issued by the Philippine National Police (PNP) through the Police Regional Office in the Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), covers the entire duration of the week-long event, which is expected to draw thousands of visitors.

Police authorities said the gun ban is a preventive measure to ensure public safety amid the large crowds anticipated during the celebration.

Only uniformed personnel from the police, military and other law enforcement agencies performing official duties will be exempted from the restriction.

To further secure the event, the PNP will implement heightened security operations across the city, including the establishment of checkpoints, increased police visibility, and intensified mobile patrols.

Authorities are calling on residents and festivalgoers to cooperate with security protocols and promptly report any suspicious activity.

PRO-NIR emphasized that the measure forms part of a broader effort to maintain peace and order, ensuring that the Panaad Festival proceeds safely and without incident, as it continues to stand as a symbol of unity and progress in Negros Occidental.

Held annually at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, the festival gathers all 31 cities and municipalities of Negros Occidental, showcasing local culture, products, talents, and community pride./CJ, WDJ
