Bago City Mayor Marina Javellana-Yao has expressed strong optimism that the city is on track to become the next major investment hub in the province, citing increasing interest from potential investors and ongoing development initiatives.
Javellana-Yao said several investors have already signified intent to establish businesses in the city, with more projects currently in the pipeline.
While she declined to disclose specific details, she emphasized that numerous business establishments are expected to rise in the coming months.
“I claim and manifest that Bago City will be the next big thing in Negros Occidental because a lot of investors are expressing interest in investing in the city,” the mayor said.
One of the key factors attracting investors, she noted, is the city’s relatively lower land valuation compared to neighboring areas, making it a more viable option for business expansion.
Alongside economic development, the city government is also prioritizing improvements in social services, healthcare and education.
Within her first 100 days in office, Javellana-Yao highlighted several initiatives aimed at bringing government services closer to communities.
These include the establishment of satellite offices such as the City Social Welfare and Development Office extension in Barangay Ma-ao, and “PAO sa Ma-ao,” created in partnership with the Public Attorney’s Office to provide legal assistance, documentation and notarial services.
The city has also rolled out mobile government programs to improve accessibility of essential services.
In the education sector, Javellana-Yao said 20 percent of the city’s development fund will be allocated to support Bago City College, with plans underway for the construction of a dormitory to accommodate students.
The mayor also cited the implementation of the “Asenso Bago” flagship initiatives, which focus on inclusive growth through programs in sports development, healthcare, electrification, and water access./CJ, WDJ
