The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reported that prices of leading commodities in markets across Negros Occidental remain stable despite recent increases in global fuel prices.

According to DTI-Negros Occidental Provincial Director Lynna Joy Cardinal, the agency has not monitored any significant price adjustments in essential goods, noting that supply levels in local markets continue to be sufficient.

However, Cardinal acknowledged that the continued rise in petroleum prices could eventually affect the cost of basic commodities if transport and logistics expenses increase.

She clarified that the pricing of oil products is outside their jurisdiction, explaining that monitoring fuel prices falls under the responsibility of the Department of Energy.

The DTI official also appealed to retailers to avoid taking advantage of the situation by imposing unnecessary price increases, stressing that strong market competition among sellers discourages overpricing.

At the same time, Cardinal urged consumers to refrain from hoarding or buying goods in excessive quantities to ensure that supplies remain available for other buyers./CJ, WDJ
