The Creamline Cool Smashers overcame a tough stand from the Nxled Chameleons for a 25-16, 22-25, 25-21, 15-25, 15-10 victory in the PVL All-Filipino Conference at the Playtime FilOil Centre in San Juan City on Saturday night, March 7.

Negrense Bernadeth Pons delivered a strong performance, tallying 18 points as the Cool Smashers recorded their fifth consecutive win for a 5-1 win-loss mark.

Jessica Galanza top-scored for the Cool Smashers with 19 points and was named Player of the Game, while Diana Carlos and Jeanette Panaga had 16 and 13, respectively.

The Cool Smashers showed composure in the deciding frame, pulling away late to seal the victory after the Chameleons forced a fifth set by dominating the fourth frame.

Meanwhile, Nxled absorbed its fourth straight defeat and slipped to a 3-4 record in the standings. They were led by Brooke Van Sickle’s 28-point explosion.

The Akari Power Chargers extended their winning streak to three games after defeating the Capital1 Solar Energy Power Spikers, 17-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-17.

Libero Justine Jazareno anchored the Power Chargers floor defense and was named Player of the Game after tallying 17 excellent digs and three excellent receptions as they moved up to a 3-3 mark.

Jazareno said the team made sure to maintain its intensity throughout the match, knowing that any drop in energy could make things difficult against the Power Spikers.

“I think we worked hard for these three to four sets, kasi hindi pwedeng bumaba ‘yung energy namin kasi mahihirapan kami eh,” Jazareno said.
