Adamson University made quick work of Ateneo de Manila University to open its UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball campaign on a winning note.
The Lady Falcons posted a commanding 25-19, 25-18, 25-10 victory over the Blue Eagles at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, with sophomore Shaina Nitura once again leading the charge.
Nitura finished with 16 points, while Frances Mordi added 14 markers along with three receptions, and head coach JP Yude commended his squad for sustaining its intensity despite holding a comfortable advantage for most of the match.
“Keep going lang talaga,” said Yude.
“Kumbaga, it’s not a safe lead pa rin kasi ‘di pa natatapos ‘yung game.”
Rookie Abegail Segui also contributed eight points and five digs, while Fhei Sagaysay orchestrated the offense with 13 of the Lady Falcons’ 14 excellent sets.
Adamson asserted their dominance early, controlling the first two sets before turning it up another notch in the third.
The Lady Falcons unleashed eight unanswered points to open the final frame and never looked back en route to the sweep, even stretching their lead to 16-1 before the second technical timeout.
On the other hand, Alexia Montoro led Ateneo with five points, as the Blue Eagles managed just 18 attack points in the match. Their cause was further hurt by 24 errors, compared to Adamson’s 16. (ABS-CBN News)
