The Negros Occidental Provincial Health Office (PHO) recorded a sharp decline in dengue infections last month, even as several cities remain on close watch due to higher case counts.
PHO data show that from January 1 to February 7, the province logged 141 dengue cases, a steep 80.28 percent decrease compared to the 715 cases reported during the same period last year.
Health officials said the drop reflects intensified prevention efforts and heightened public awareness following the surge experienced in 2025.
Despite the overall downward trend, San Carlos City and Bago City emerged as the top areas with the most recorded infections, posting 18 cases each.
Other local government units with notable numbers include Cadiz City with 15 cases, Kabankalan City with 12 and Isabela town with nine.
Meanwhile, Manapla and Cauayan reported seven cases each, while Moises Padilla, Escalante City and Talisay City recorded six cases apiece.
The PHO emphasized that no dengue-related deaths have been reported in the province during the monitoring period, a development health authorities described as encouraging./CJ, WDJ
