The Police Regional Office Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has placed all its units on heightened alert as Tropical Storm “Basyang” is expected to affect Negros Island by Friday, February 6.
In a proactive move, PRO-NIR has upgraded the alert status of all personnel to ensure rapid response and uninterrupted law enforcement operations.
The measure allows for immediate deployment of officers, intensified visibility patrols, and swift mobilization of resources in case of weather-related emergencies.
“All units are directed to closely coordinate with local government units and Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices to synchronize response efforts and provide police assistance as needed,” PRO-NIR spokesperson said.
Search and rescue teams have been activated and are on standby, while personnel, equipment, mobility assets, and communication systems are being prepared to support continuous operations throughout the region.
The police agency also urges the public to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures, including monitoring official weather updates, securing homes and valuables, preparing emergency supplies, and avoiding flood- or landslide-prone areas.
Citizens are encouraged to report emergencies immediately to the nearest police station.
PRO-NIR reassures residents that it will continue to monitor the storm closely and remain committed to safeguarding lives, maintaining peace and order, and supporting disaster response efforts before, during, and after the tropical storm./CJ, WDJ
