The newly-installed office-in-charge (OIC) police director of Negros Oriental has highlighted his three key priorities, including intensified anti-illegal drug campaigns, as he assumed office this week.
Colonel Timmar Alam was installed into office on Monday, February 2, at the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NORPPO) headquarters in Sibulan town by Police Regional Office in the Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) director Brigadier General Arnold Thomas Ibay.
In an interview with the Philippine News Agency yesterday, Captain Stephen Polinar, NORPPO spokesperson, said during his first command conference with police chiefs and unit commanders following his assumption, Alam “wants to instill discipline among police personnel, improve law enforcement efforts, and enhance police operations, particularly on illegal drugs and loose firearms.”
During his message at the assumption of command ceremony, Alam said leading the Negros Oriental police force is a “very challenging responsibility,” following the deaths of four police personnel and a female civilian in two separate but related incidents in Sibulan last month.
“I am fully aware that this time around, which is the aftermath of that tragic incident, is a very challenging responsibility … and I accept it with a profound sense of duty, commitment and humility,” Alam said.
Alam said his leadership will be guided by three core principles in line with the Philippine National Police or PNP’s Focus Agenda of the Chief PNP.
These are community engagement and partnership, sustained law enforcement, and upholding professionalism and integrity.
Alam highlighted the need for strengthened partnerships with government officials, law enforcement agencies, and the community in fighting crimes and maintaining peace and order.
He assured of relentless operations and intelligence-driven strategies to bring justice to the communities.
Alam replaced Colonel Lito Patay, who was named OIC following the administrative relief of Colonel Criscente Tiguelo last month after a police officer shot three of his fellow officers and a lady civilian in Sibulan last January 8. (PNA)
