A 36-year-old Filipina wife died after she was allegedly stabbed at least 63 times by her American husband during a violent domestic dispute at Barangay Pinucauan in Negros Oriental’s Vallehermoso town.
Police Captain Stephen Polinar, Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office spokesperson, said the victim passed away at around 9:00 p.m. on Friday, January 30.
Polinar said parricide charges were filed against the 40-year-old American national, who used a broken glass to attack the victim and slash himself in the wrist.
According to initial police reports, the husband had just arrived at their residence on January 29, when a heated argument broke out inside the couple’s room.
The confrontation quickly escalated, with the suspect allegedly assaulting the victim before arming himself with a bladed weapon and repeatedly stabbing her on different parts of the body.
Investigators said the suspect further intensified the attack by breaking a window jalousie and using shards of glass to inflict additional wounds on the victim.
He also reportedly slashed his own wrist during the incident.
Polinar said responding officers attempted to negotiate with the suspect, but he initially resisted.
Law enforcement personnel later forced their way into the room, where they found the victim unconscious and severely injured on the floor.
The suspect eventually surrendered and was taken into police custody.
Polinar said authorities have already spoken with the victim as part of the ongoing investigation.
Appropriate charges are being prepared against the suspect as police continue to gather evidence surrounding the incident./CJ, WDJ
