The Embassy of Israel in the Philippines has welcomed the inauguration of the Sum-ag Water Treatment Plant in the Negros Island Region, citing the project as a milestone that underscores the importance of strong partnerships in delivering sustainable and climate-resilient infrastructure.
In a news release, the Israeli Embassy recognized the role of international cooperation in the project’s success.
It noted that the facility benefited from global expertise, including Israeli water treatment and automation technologies that enable efficient purification, real-time monitoring and automated control systems to ensure a safe and reliable water supply.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. led the inspection and inauguration of the facility last week, which is considered one of the largest water treatment plants in the region.
Once fully operational, the plant is expected to supply up to 75 million liters of potable water daily.
About 100,000 households, or an estimated 500,000 residents, in Bacolod City and the municipality of Murcia would benefit from it.
The Israeli innovation is represented through Watermatic International, whose advanced systems showcase Israel’s globally recognized expertise in addressing water scarcity through innovation, efficiency, and sustainable solutions.
Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines Dana Kursh attended the inauguration.
She described the project as a reflection of the strength of the Israel-Philippines partnership and broader international collaboration involving the European Union, the government of the Netherlands and Climate Fund Managers.
“This project reflects vision, technology, trust, and the transfer of know-how. Despite having more than 60 percent of its land classified as desert, Israel learned to overcome water scarcity through innovation, including drip irrigation and advanced water technologies,” Kursh said.
“We are proud to share Israel’s experience and practical solutions to support water and food security for Filipinos. Water is life — ang tubig ay buhay,” she added.
The Sum-ag Water Treatment Plant serves as a model of how innovation and partnerships can deliver long-term benefits and climate-resilient infrastructure for communities.
The Embassy of Israel looks forward to continuing its close cooperation with the Philippine government and other partners to advance sustainable development, technology transfer, and inclusive growth. (PNA)
