The Police Regional Office in the Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has deployed 300 police personnel to augment security operations for the upcoming Dinagyang Festival 2026 in Iloilo City, underscoring heightened inter-regional coordination to ensure a safe and orderly celebration.
A send-off ceremony for the augmentation forces was held on January 20, at the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) Grandstand inside Camp Alfredo M. Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City’s Barangay Estefania.
The deployed contingent is composed of three personnel from the PRO-NIR headquarters, 63 from the Bacolod City Police Office, 69 from NOCPPO, 65 from the Regional Mobile Force Battalion, and 100 newly graduated personnel from the Field Training Program who will be assigned to PRO-NIR.
The troops will be on duty in Iloilo City from January 22 to 26, in support of intensified security measures during the festival.
PRO-NIR Director Police Brigadier General Arnold Thomas Ibay said the deployment not only aims to reinforce peace and order but also reflects PRO-NIR’s gratitude to the Police Regional Office in Western Visayas, which previously extended support during Bacolod City’s MassKara Festival in October.
He reminded the deployed personnel to remain vigilant, prioritize their personal safety, and ensure the protection of festival-goers.
“While we expect full commitment in maintaining peace and order, it is equally important that every officer returns safe and sound,” Ibay said, stressing that the safety of police personnel is as vital as safeguarding the public.
PRO-NIR assured residents that the deployment will not compromise security coverage across NIR, noting that adequate manpower, strategic deployment, and continuous monitoring remain in place to maintain stability and peace in the region.
During the ceremony, the troops were reminded to strictly observe standard operating procedures, respect human rights, and uphold people-centered policing as they carry out their duties.
Through the augmentation, PRO-NIR reaffirmed its commitment to inter-regional cooperation and proactive security planning, aimed at ensuring public safety, protecting property, and supporting the orderly conduct of major cultural and tourism events such as the Dinagyang Festival./CJ, WDJ
