The Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested and initiated deportation proceedings on an Estonian vlogger over complaints of offensive remarks, harassment, unauthorized filming, and online content deemed demeaning to Filipinos.
The vlogger was arrested on January 15 in Dumaguete City by BI operatives, in coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP) Dumaguete City Police Station and Barangay Cantil-e officials.
A resolution was subsequently endorsed by the city council to national agencies, prompting immigration enforcement action.
“A foreign vlogger comes here, disrespects Filipinos, violates our laws, and thinks he can hide behind a camera and a social media following. That ends here,” BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said.
The vlogger was identified as Siim Roosipuu, 34 years old.
Roosipuu operates a YouTube channel called “Pro Life Traveler,” and has been accused of harassing Filipinos, including minors.
Some of his videos circulating online allegedly show him chasing individuals and asking inappropriate questions of underage women.
Viado said the case mirrors the controversial deportation of Russian vlogger Vitaly Zdorovetskiy, describing it as a recurring pattern of foreign vloggers abusing the country’s openness for shock-driven online content.
He stressed that the arrest is consistent with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.’s directive to strictly enforce Philippine laws against erring foreign nationals.
The BI emphasized that harassment, public disturbance, and acts of disrespect constitute serious violations of Philippine law and will not be excused under the guise of vlogging.
Viado also emphasized that “the Philippines is not a content playground.”
“We welcome tourists and legitimate creators, but anyone who exploits our people for views, clicks or profit will face arrest, deportation and blacklisting,” he said.
“If you come here to provoke, insult or humiliate Filipinos, your stay will be short and your exit will be permanent,” he added. (ABS-CBN News)
