The TNT Tropang 5G moved a win away from returning to the PBA Philippine Cup finals.
Chot Reyes’ wards continued their strong run, overwhelming the Meralco Bolts, 102-83, in Game 4 of the Season 50 semifinals to seize a 3-1 series lead on Sunday, January 11, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Poy Erram led TNT with his conference-high 27 points on an efficient 9-of-11 shooting, and this was on top of nine rebounds and six assists, providing much-needed support as the Tropang 5G dealt with the hamstring injury of RR Pogoy and the illness of Kelly Williams.
“I was just thinking of helping the team in any way possible,” said Erram, who already had 21 points on a perfect 8-of-8 shooting clip at halftime. “I just stayed aggressive.”
Jordan Heading also delivered with 15 points, while Calvin Oftana added 14.
Kim Aurin chipped in 10 markers, while Kevin Ferrer and Henry Galinato scored seven apiece.
Pogoy, who remains doubtful for Game 5, saw limited action and logged just a minute before exiting the match, while Williams still managed to contribute seven points and three rebounds despite battling illness.
Fortunately for TNT, Erram set the tone early, while Oftana, Heading and Williams came alive in the second half to fuel a run that pushed the Tropang 5G lead to as much as 24 points, 84-60 — an advantage that proved insurmountable.
TNT can close out the series in Game 5 on Wednesday, January 14, 5:15 p.m. at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.
On the other hand, Chris Banchero paced Meralco with 19 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals, while CJ Cansino and Cliff Hodge added 17 points each.
However, the Bolts sorely missed the services of Chris Newsome, who remains sidelined with a left MCL sprain. (ABS-CBN News)
