Two teenage boys sustained hand injuries in separate firecracker-related incidents in Negros Occidental’s Himamaylan City during the New Year celebration.
According to the Himamaylan police, a 15-year-old male student was injured while picking up scattered Five-Star firecrackers in Old Mohon, Barangay Cabanbanan at 5:34 a.m. on New Year’s Day, January 1.
One of the firecrackers suddenly exploded, causing injury to his right hand.
He was rushed to Binalbagan infirmary, treated as an outpatient, and later discharged.
In Barangay Sara-et’s Purok 4, a 14-year-old student sustained a burn injury on his right hand while lighting a firecracker at 1:15 a.m. on January 2.
Police said the boy failed to notice firecracker powder on his hand, which ignited and caused the injury.
He was also brought to Binalbagan infirmary for medical treatment./CJ, WDJ
