The Philippine Coast Guard in Negros Oriental is adding more floating assets to enhance maritime security and disaster response, an official said.

Lt. Marionne Abigal Enopia, commander of Coast Guard Station Negros Oriental, told the Philippine News Agency that three aluminum boats have been repaired, and three new units are en route as additional support.

“The three refurbished aluminum boats were tested at sea today and will be deployed right away once their operational status is confirmed,” Enopia said.

“These boats will help the Coast Guard undertake regular maritime patrols, search and rescue, and other operations,” she added.

In the past, Enopia said they had to rely on private motor bancas that they rented for maritime patrols.

Before the aluminum boats were repaired, the provincial Coast Guard had only two rubber boats, designed explicitly for search-and-rescue operations.

Enopia expressed gratitude that the Provincial Peace and Order Council has allocated fuel for the Coast Guard.

Meanwhile, the Dumaguete City council has approved Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria’s request to procure three aluminum boats for the Coast Guard.

Enopia said this will certainly boost the Coast Guard’s capability in responding to disasters and maintaining maritime security. (PNA)
