A 73-year-old farmer was shot dead at Barangay Punao in Negros Occidental’s San Carlos City early Monday morning, November 24.
The victim (name withheld), a resident of Purok Adelfa in Calatrava town’s Barangay Pinucotan, was waiting by the roadside after disembarking from a passenger jeepney from Calatrava when he was shot by two unidentified suspects in Sitio Talave.
The assailants reportedly fled the scene on a black motorcycle heading back to Calatrava.
According to initial police reports, the victim succumbed to gunshot wounds to the diaphragm, exiting through the right side of his abdomen, and a gunshot wound to the face, exiting through his right ear.
The San Carlos police quickly launched a pursuit operation to identify and apprehend the suspects.
Authorities are also reviewing closed-circuit television footage from the area to aid in the investigation.
No arrests have been made as of this report.
