The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) has passed a resolution urging key city offices to conduct an immediate assessment of the damage caused by Typhoon “Tino” to the city’s fishing communities, paving the way for swift aid and recovery efforts for affected fisherfolks.
The resolution calls on the City Cooperative and Livelihood Development Office, City Agriculture Office, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Department of Social Services and Development, and the Liga ng mga Barangay — through the mayor’s office — to determine the extent of damage to fishing boats, gear and coastal structures.
The initiative aims to ensure that coastal residents who depend on fishing as their primary source of income can recover as soon as possible.
Under the resolution, concerned offices are directed to submit a consolidated report within 15 days detailing the number of affected fisherfolks, extent of property damage and recommended assistance packages.
These may include repair kits, replacement of fishing gear, cash-for-work programs for coastal cleanup, and emergency financial aid.
“The city government recognizes the vital role of our fisherfolks in sustaining food supply and local livelihood,” Councilor Cesar Distrito emphasized.
“We want to make sure they are not left behind in the recovery process,” he added.
City officials have assured that once the assessment is completed, resources will be mobilized to provide immediate relief and rehabilitation support to affected coastal barangays./CJ, WDJ
