The University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R) fell short of its title bid after absorbing a 0-2 defeat to the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Radicals in the men’s football finals of the 26th Philippine University Games (Unigames) in Bacolod City.
Despite the home crowd’s support, UNO-R struggled to break through PUP’s solid defense.
The Radicals struck first in the 26th minute through Kyle Lacson’s header off a corner kick, then sealed the outcome in the 80th minute when Shawn Mouaña converted another header from a set piece.
UNO-R’s offense, which had been prolific in earlier matches — including a 3-1 semifinal win over the University of the Philippines (UP)-Cebu — was completely shut down by PUP’s disciplined backline.
Meanwhile, UP-Cebu secured third place with a 1-0 victory over University of San Agustin behind a goal from Justine Soco.
The Radicals, mentored by head coach Ignatius Anagbogu and assistant coach Mark Gilbert Ayuson, completed their campaign unbeaten.
