Bacolod City has officially been named host of the Batang Pinoy National Championships 2026, following the ceremonial turnover of the Batang Pinoy banner during the closing rites of the 2025 games held at the Antonio C. Acharon Sports Complex in Calumpang, General Santos City on Thursday, October 30.

Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman John Patrick Gregorio made the announcement, calling Bacolod’s selection a “fitting homecoming” for the city that hosted the inaugural Batang Pinoy in 1999, and again in 2001 and 2013.

“It is just fitting for Bacolod to host the Batang Pinoy after several years, being among the pioneers of this grassroots sports program,” Gregorio said.

During the turnover ceremony, Gregorio handed over the Batang Pinoy banner to Atty. Jose Marty Go, Secretary to the Mayor, who represented Bacolod Mayor Greg Gasataya.

In a recorded message, Gasataya expressed gratitude to the PSC for the opportunity to once again host the country’s premier youth sports event.

“We are very excited and thankful. This is truly one of the biggest grassroots sports programs of the national government, and we look forward to discovering more young talents through Batang Pinoy 2026,” Gasataya said.

He also emphasized how Batang Pinoy continues to serve as a launching pad for future world-class athletes, citing Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz and world champion gymnast Carlos Yulo as inspiring examples.

Gregorio, meanwhile, lauded General Santos City and Mayor Lorelie Pacquiao for successfully hosting this year’s event, which drew nearly 19,000 athletes and delegates from across the country competing in 27 sports disciplines.

With Bacolod set to host the 17th edition of Batang Pinoy, the City of Smiles is preparing to highlight its vibrant culture, warm hospitality and strong sportsmanship as it welcomes the nation’s best young athletes in 2026./CJ, WDJ
